August is here, and everyone at Central High School knows that football season has begun! Last Friday, August 21, Central had their first home football game against Notre Dame. After four very difficult quarters, the Purple Pounders ended up losing to Notre Dame with a final score of 40-6. As difficult as the loss was, the coaches and players are moving forward as they continue their season.

“We have a lot of work to do, but we aren’t going to keep our heads down. We just need to practice hard this week and get ready for the rest of the season,” stated junior Alex Padavana.

Although the team was defeated, the Purple Pounders had many good plays, such as a turnover and a 74-yard rush by senior Taven Spann. These moments are giving the team high hopes for the rest of the season.

“Soddy Daisy won’t be ready for us this week. We are going to end our season 9-1,” stated senior Ashby Wilson.

Even though the Pounders faced a terrible loss in their first game, the team is optimistic that this will be the only defeat of the season. This upcoming week, the Purple Pounders will be playing an away game at Soddy Daisy High School on Friday, August 28.

“I’m just ready to win,” concluded Padavana.

We at the Central Digest commemorate the team for their willingness to stay strong and keep fighting. We also wish the team luck for the game against the Trojans this Friday and for the rest of the 2015 season.
