Right before fall break, all seniors were asked to nominate and vote for this year’s Senior Superlatives.
The Senior Superlatives are different categories in which students are selected to represent the characteristics of the senior class. These superlatives are: Most Likely to Succeed, Best All Around, School Leadership, School Service, Most Dependable, Most Athletic, Most Courteous, Wittiest, Most Talented, Neatest in Appearance, Friendliest, and School Torchbearer.
Mr.Kevin Parsons is the teacher who sent out the nomination and voting links and collated all the data. Before Fall Break, seniors were allowed to nominate whomever they wanted. After the break, students were able to vote for the nominees.
Parsons described superlatives as, “a lighthearted, fun tradition common in American high schools.” This tradition is just one of many that have been around for years here and cross the country. Parsons said, “[they] can be seen in even the oldest yearbooks in the library’s archives.”
The Senior Superlatives have been won by hundreds of students over many different eras throughout this school’s history, but is a tradition that some students might have forgotten about, or never heard of until this year. One student even mentioned how, “If it was, I didn’t know about it, but this year I’m glad they made it known.”
Teachers and students have both shared their opinions on Senior Superlatives, especially if they thought they were important. Mr. Randy Young said, “We want to recognize students for the good, too. It really helps the school atmosphere.” These Superlatives are used to help recognize students for many different topics and shed some light on some students.
One student, who was one of the nominees, said she was “pretty excited to be in a few of the choices, but also surprised.” Another student, our
most athletic senior girl, says, “It was fun seeing all the people get nominated.”
This year’s Senior Superlatives are:
