Katheron Latham has been teaching Choir and Piano classes for six years at Central. She moved to Chattanooga, Tennessee in 1995 from Alabama. From 1997-2000, Latham taught at the Berean Christian Academy. Then from 2000-2018 Latham taught private piano and voice lessons to students in her home studio. Latham was also part of the staff at Bayside Baptist church for over 25 years, serving as a choir coordinator for children and the churches pianist.
Latham has a Bachelor’s in Music in Piano Performance (1991) and a Masters in Vocal Music Education (1993). Both degrees were from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. Latham had always wanted to be some type of teacher. Happily, she got to teach 2 things she loves, Choir and Piano. She has been married for over 32 years and has been a mother to 3 children, a daughter-in-law, and a grandmother to her 2 year old grandson. Her daughter graduated from Central in 2023. Latham’s greatest achievement is being able to teach at central. She is very proud of the Central Alumni and the local community for donating over 45 thousand dollars to help Central get a piano lab in 2020.
When asked for advise, Latham says one should always think before speaking, asking oneself, Is it True? Is it Helpful? Is it Important? Is it Necessary? Is it Kind?
Two of her favorite quotes are from Albert Einstein and Hans Christian Anderson. Einstein said, “You never fail until you stop trying,” while Anderson said, “Where words fail, music speaks.”
