CARM”S CORNER: WHOA WE’RE HALFWAY THERE

Carmen Breitenbach, Columnist

As Jon Bon Jovi, and all students this semester, would say, “Whoa, we’re halfway there!” Our first semester is down, only one more to go! Although we’re in the final stretch, and it looks like we’re almost through, there is still a lot more work to be done. Finishing this school year out right might make all the difference for you in the future no matter what grade you’re in. I know personally that finishing my senior year has been long awaited, however, these last few months I have are ones I will never get back and ones I won’t get a chance to fix.

On the other hand, I’m very relieved the school year is almost over. I know freshmen are glad to finish their first year of highschool and not be -totally- hated next year. Sophomores are preparing for the ACT and getting a chance to pick on the freshmen instead of being the ones picked on. Juniors are stressing out about ACT scores and calculating how much their grades this year affect any of their future endeavors. Lastly, seniors are saying goodbye to an era and saying hello to a new one. They’re putting the final touches on their high school career, and they’re crossing their fingers as they move into adulthood.

Our final semester of the school year also comes with new clubs as well. Mr. Parsons started a Dungeons and Dragons club and a new Mythology class opened up with him as well. We also have a crafting club you can join with Mrs. Dobbs. Underclassmen are slowly but surely revamping Central’s many clubs and extracurriculars.

Another thing that comes this semester is senior graduation. The senior graduation date is already set and will be held at Finley Stadium. I think I can speak for most seniors when I say we’re happy it’s going to be at Finley Stadium rather than Central’s football field like the class of 2021 was reduced to. In years past, it was held at McKenzie Arena but then COVID hit and it was held at Central with COVID restrictions. I think the class of 2022 as a whole is glad that we can have somewhat of a normal last year compared to what the past two graduating classes got.

All in all, this second semester should be used as a blank slate. Whether last semester was good or bad, use this semester to be the best you can be and shoot for new and higher goals. Some of us are hanging on by a thread waiting for this year to be over but some of us are on cloud nine having an outstanding year. No matter which side you are on: keep pushing and don’t take for granted the many opportunities Central can give you.
