A Happy Halloween Birthday
October 30, 2020
As October comes to a close, everyone is looking forward to the spook-tacular holiday known as Halloween. Amidst changes due to COVID-19, there is a lot of uncertainty over how the occasion will occur. Whether trick-or-treating is permitted or not, there will be at least two celebratory events occurring on the crisp Saturday afternoon.
Both LeeAnn Brock and Leesha Smith were born on this momentous occasion many years ago. Even with COVID-19 complications changing daily life, both of these beloved teachers are planning on making the most of their birthdays.
“All of my birthday parties were interesting growing up. I never had one that people were dressed normal, they were always dressed in their trick-or-treat costumes. It’s like a birthday that everyone celebrates with you” said Brock, recalling her childhood memories.
She plans to continue this tradition with her grandchildren when they come over to visit. Brock explained that she is excited to see what they will dress up as when her birthday arrives.
Halloween was never really celebrated during Smith’s childhood, but her birthdays always were.
“My family did not celebrate Halloween due to religious reasons. We would go out to dinner at a restaurant of my choice every Halloween. Sometimes, we would go on the day of trick or treating so that we were not home at that time,” shared Smith.
While Smith has her own child now that she will celebrate with, she also plans to include the students from Central.
“Since I took this job, I celebrate with my students by having a Halloween party for the special education department. My class makes treats for the department and teachers that work with us. We play games and dance to Halloween music. We make different slimes and do different experiments with pumpkins,” said Smith.
Even though having a birthday on a holiday can be irritating, it makes them memorable. Despite COVID-19, these two teachers are making the most of their crazy birthdays. A very special happy birthday goes out to Mrs. LeeAnn Brock and Mrs. Leesha Smith. May your special day be filled with joy and laughter.
