For the month of March, Mrs. Rachel Hill was awarded this title. Every month throughout the school year there is one teacher nominated for “Teacher Of The Month.”

This year marks Hill’s ninth year of teaching at Central High School. She had always dreamed of teaching special education and how they can find their purpose.

“I want them to be as successful as I want my daughter to be,” Hill says.

Hill wants her students to be able to have as much freedom as possible and for them to be able to leave the school with independent skills making them ready for society. She wants them to be functional adults and ask for help when they need it most. She wants them to understand that they have the skills to accomplish anything they set their mind to.

Mainly, Hill does a lot of hands-on learning with her students including, creative activities talking through her lessons, and encouraging student interactions with student-led discussions and lessons. Every Friday, the students have a store opportunity where they use the money they earn to get things like candy, snacks, computer time, phone time, and free periods.

On most days, Hill teaches homebound students after school, and during the day, she is set on educating the minds of the young. When she’s not teaching students, Hill hangs out with her daughter, does crafts, walks her dog, listens to music, and reads some of her favorite books.

Mrs. Hill appreciates every student whom she interacts with, especially the students who aren’t afraid to fail, grow through their mistakes, and have faith in themselves. She always tries to make sure everyone has that positive and confident mindset so they can succeed in their future.

“You can do anything you put your mind to,” says Hill. “Don’t let the world stop you.”
