As the school year comes to a close and summer is just around the corner, students are excited to jam to old tunes, as well see what new releases hit the music community this summer.

A “summer anthem” is a term used to describe a song that people will play throughout the summer as they go on vacations, to parties, and any other big summer plans. Many students and adults have their anthem and the Central Digest staff went straight to the hallways of Central High School to find out what students were jamming to this summer.

Students’ music interests at Central ranges anywhere from Hip-Hop and R&B to Pop and Rock. Many artists are releasing albums just in time for summer vacation.

So what song is your “summer anthem?” We asked several students at Central High School and the range of different results was incredible!

“I really like “Let it Go” by James Bay. The song is really soothing and relaxing,” stated Lexi Valliere, an upcoming sophomore at Central High.

“I like “Death of a Bachelor” by Panic! at the Disco,” stated Georgia Teems, another incoming sophomore, “the beat in that song has a really good rhythm.”

While some students are kicking back and jamming out to relaxing tunes with a good beat, other students like Sam Reels, a Central High School cheerleader, are looking for that one song that just screams, “Beach vacation and summertime!”

“I like “Tides” by Jack and Jack,” stated Reels,” I like how it encourages you to keep your head up and it makes me think of summer. It also gives me beach vibes.”

An individual’s music taste is something that helps define who they are, whether it be Indie, Pop, Hip Hop, Rap, or some good- old-fashioned Rock-and-Roll.
