Though the Boyd Buchanan Buccaneers proved to be consistent and swift on their feet, the Pounders  did not cut them any slack throughout the hard-fought home game on Monday night. Within the first quarter, 9 of 13 points were scored by a senior, Ryan Montgomery. Though the scores of the first 2 quarters were constantly back and forth, Central was able to walk off the court at halftime, leading 27-26. It was obvious that the Bucs weren’t going down without a fight, but as the game went on, the Pounders only grew stronger.

After the head Coach, Rick Rogers, let the guys talk as a team, the Pounders came out in the third quarter with a vengeance. Senior Emmanual Lane gave the Bucs a wake up call, scoring 7 of the 19 points earned during the third quarter. Hayes, Montgomery, Curtis, and Swafford also contributed a set of 2-pointers as well. Going into the last quarter, the Pounders took back control of their home court with a lead of 17 points (46-29).

“It was a relief to get a big lead. We came back out strong, and we knew we needed to handle it and not let them hang around,” senior Devin Swafford noted.

The fourth quarter was easily handled, and the younger players got to finish the game. The Pounders won by a great score of 61-43 over Boyd. They advance to ( 11-1 ) as their overall record. Their next game will be one of the most watched rivalry games in this area – Central vs. Brainerd. It will be Friday, January 15th, at 7:30 p.m. at Chattanooga State Community College.

When questioned about the team’s preparation for the Panthers, point-guard Terron Hayes summed it up in two words – “We’re ready.”

“My goals for tomorrow are to go out there and do all I can do and help the team get ahead early,” shared Ryan Montgomery, determined for his team to take home a victory.
