Basketball: Central Girls Demolish Brainerd by 28 Points
January 22, 2016
The Lady Pounders basketball team defeated Brainerd 57-29 on Friday, January 15. This was the second time this season that they took home a victory against Brainerd. The first time, the Pounders barely won with just a seven point difference, but in this previous game, they demolished Brainerd with a 28 point difference. Central’s record is now 6-1.
“I think we won {last night} because our energy and our intensity levels were really high , and we hustled after every ball and were really aggressive on defense,” shared senior Rebekah Hill.
The team has improved a lot since the beginning of the season, but there is still work to be done, both as a team, and as individuals.
“I personally need to work on my foul shots, right-hand layups, and being more aggressive in games,” expressed Delaynie France, a freshman.
Emily Feist, a junior and player for the Lady Pounders, explained what the team has been focusing on in order to grow and get better.
“In practice, we have been working on and improving our defense and conditioning,” stated Feist.
The team is looking forward to competing for state, but because of the difficulty level of their division, they are not certain they will make it all the way there.
“I really hope we make it to state this year, but right now our goal is to win district and put a banner on the wall in the gym,” exclaimed France.
Although the basketball team has had its ups and downs, the players continues to improve and take home victories. Join the Central Digest in support as we cheer on the Lady Pounders in their future games and wish them a successful season.
