Tuesday, January 27th, the Pounders basketball teams traveled to Hixson for a district matchup. While warming up, the team had a confident strut, which they later carried into the game. The first quarter was quickly controlled by the Pounders who had a 12 point lead before allowing the Wildcats to score. Throughout the first 8 minutes,  Hixson only scored 7 points, while Central sunk in a solid 19 points.

“We came out really quick and took the lead fast. They couldn’t handle it,” commented senior JaMichael Poole.

By the end of the first half, Central led 39-20, with a big help from some of the younger players. Just when Central wondered if our guys could get any stronger, the Pounders came out the third quarter and threw 24 points on the Wildcats’ scoreboard. The junior varsity was able to finish out the game and give the starters a well-deserved break.

The final score was 81-41, an unbelievable shut-out!

“A lot of people who weren’t at the game were asking if that was really the score… Yeah, it’s real,” senior Terron Hayes assured them.

JaMichael Poole led the game in scoring 18 points, while his teammates trailed right behind him, Hayes (15) and  Montgomery (14). Every player on the team scored at least 2 points while in the game – a great showing for the Pounders.

Their next game will be Thursday, January 28th, at Central. It will be a make up game against Howard, girls at 6 p.m. and boys at 7:30 p.m. Come out and watch the Pounders put on a show!
