After winning two games in a row against Grace and East Ridge, then losing to Lookout Valley, the Lady Pounders prepared to face a three game series the week of March 29.

On Monday, March 29, the Lady Pounders rematched the Grace Baptist Academy Golden Eagles. Overall, the Lady Pounders played well put errors and a lack of offensive presence victimized the purple and gold. Central left 20 runners on base and had six errors which made it easy for the GBA Eagles. The Eagles struck big in the second inning when they hung up a five spot. They cruised the rest of the game and went home with the win. At the end of the seventh, the Eagles were on top 10-2.

Hoping to get back into the win column, the Lady Pounders went on the road to play the Tyner Academy Rams. Calli Morgan started the game for Central. She has been the Lady Pounder’s go-to pitcher but got beat up in Tuesday’s bout. Morgan only recorded one out and gave up four runs before being replaced by Mikiah Tate. Tate finished the remaining 17 outs and gave up nine runs on 11 hits and 103 pitches. On the offensive side of things, Junior Ashlyn Wood was the star of the show. The five hole hitting catcher had a stolen base along with three hits and five RBI’s in her five at-bats. The Lady Pounders have drastically improved at the plate since game one against CSAS as they only had two strikeouts and brought across 12 runs. In the end, the Lady Pounders fell to Tyner by the slim margin of 13-12.

“The team can improve on being confident when up to bat… I feel like sometimes we aren’t confident up to bat,” said Junior Calli Morgan. “… on a positive note, I feel like we have improved with our defense.”

Thursday, April 1, the Lady Pounders had a home game against the Boyd Buchannan Lady Buccaneers. The Lady Bucs started the game off with a five spot and the Lady Pounders couldn’t get anything going. Assisted by errors and a 12-run second inning, the Boyd Buchanan squad cruised to an easy 17-0 victory.

The Lady Pounders will be on Spring Break from April 5-11. When they return to play on Tuesday, April 13, they will battle it out with the district rival Red Bank Lady Lions.
