Since July, the Central volleyball team has been working hard in preparation for the startup of the 2021 season.

On Tuesday, August 17, that hardwork payed off when the Lady Pounders swept the district rival Brainerd Lady Panthers. Central won the first set 25 to 7, the second 25 to 12, and the third 25 to 0.

Riding high off the opening day win, on Thursday, the team hosted the East Ridge Lady Pioneers. They won the first set by a score of 25 to 11, the second 25 to 4, and the third 25 to 18.

“I think our last two games have gone well. The mistakes we made as a team were minor, and those are things we can work on and improve,” Woodward explained.

Returning players such as Addi Wellington, Carmen Breitenbach, and Mikiah Tate have been key to the team’s early success. If the core players continue to perform at this level, the Lady Pounders are poised for a great season.

“The team has won their first two games, both times winning three matches in a row… The girls had 66 aces on their serves in just two games,” explained first year head coach Casey McGrath.

McGrath is a fresh face around the Central volleyball program and is enjoying coaching the team. She loves connecting with the players and watching them grow. McGrath is very hopeful for the team and believes, with hard work, the Lady Pounders could make a run in the district tournament.
