Lady Pounders Dominate the Court Against the Lady Pioneers

Savannah Smith, Staff Writer

Monday, November 30, was the first home game for the Lady Pounders against rival East Ridge. After hours and hours of passing basketballs and shooting three-pointers, the ladies finally got the chance to show off all their work. Even though this was Central’s first home game, it was their second district game (the first being a win against the Howard Tigers). At the end of the season, rank placements for the championship are lined up based on the amount of district games won. The Pounders have practiced very hard to achieve their goal of winning the game.

“We had practice on Sunday and worked on our defense and offense. We also looked at the strengths and the weaknesses of East Ridge and basically made a game plan against them,” quoted senior Rebekah Hill.

The Lady Pounders ended up winning the game 62-23. Freshman Alivia Smith scored 19 points and Rebekah Hill scored 6.

“Everyone contributed in some way. We were prepared and ready to win. I think we are on a good track for the season; we just have to take it one game at a time and really focus on winning our district games, ” stated junior Emily Feist.

The Lady Pounders play against the Red Bank Lions on Friday, December 4, at 6 p.m. Hopefully, just as the first game, many students will rally together and support our school and basketball team.

“This year, we are relying on everyone, and we get to be a team. We have a lot of scorers and good players [who] could do well this season,” concluded Hill.
