Athletes and coaches share the same stress when it comes to sports during the COVID-19 pandemic, and many athletes across all sports have all shared the same question: will sporting events still be held in 2021? The short answer is yes, but that does not mean that it will not be challenging for everyone involved. Central’s track and field team is one of the largest in the school, so practice and events will be tough to plan out.

Social distancing is one of the main focal points of stopping the spread of the coronavirus. With the size of track meets, maintaining that distance can be tough at times. Athletes and coaches have to hold themselves accountable for keeping themselves and others safe. Track is not known for being close contact, but that will not stop anyone from taking the proper precautions.

“We plan to face the challenges of having the safety of the student athletes and coaches at Central High school the top priority,” stated Coach Kribs.

Central’s track and field team was looking very promising last season before the global pandemic hit. Central, having one of the better track teams in the district, is hopeful for the upcoming season. The Pounders are a highly talented team that have performed year in and year out; therefore, many of the athletes are excited for the upcoming season.

“I just want to build and improve off of last season,” commented Junior Ozzy Paulus. “I am anxious and excited to get back out there; it is so much fun.”

Although there are going to be many hardships, Central is prepared to challenge for wins during the 2021 season. They are going to do their best and plan to make the most out of this abnormal season. All of the athletes share the same desire to be the best, and they plan to build off of and help each other achieve that goal.

Central is hopeful for this season, and everyone involved is excited to finally enjoy the sport they love. As always, the Central Digest will keep everyone updated on the track and field season as it progresses.

Readers can view the latest sports updates on the sports center page. This is where schedules, scores, and rosters will be posted. The Digest will continue to bring the latest coverage and updates as the 2021 season progresses.
