CLOSED FOR THE WEEK — Vendor negligence has forced the temporary closure of Central High’s coffee shop, Central Perk

Teachers and students enjoy having coffee early in the morning, either to wake them up or to give them a jump start on the day.  The coffee shop, a nice welcoming area in the library, is home to some of the students favorite flavors, including french vanilla, banana foster, and peppermint mocha. The introduction of the coffee shop has brought of lot of new students into the library since it opened. However, the shop has been closed for a full weak, according to Melinda Martin, librarian and Central Perk barista.

“The coffee shop, I would have to say, is the students favorite place to go and grab a cup of our fresh coffee. Unfortunately, due to the lack of coffee cups and lids, the shop has to be closed down for the whole week,” explained Martin.

The current supplier for the shop has been slacking on the job and delaying delivery of what is needed for the shop. The particular vendor is not reliable, which has forced Martin to get the supplies herself.

“The vendor, being feckless, does not show up when he is supposed to. He does not even get the supplies I need. I personally have to go down and get what I need for myself,” she explained.  “That leaves me with the only choice, which is finding a new vendor.”

Martin notes that the coffee shop is not a huge money-maker, which is the likely reason for the vendor’s negligence. The money that is made in the shop is contributed to school field trips, new books for the library, project funding, and , hopefully, new coffee machines in the future.

“I do this so that the students don’t have to go out of their way just to get a cup of coffee,” Martin added.

Martin is hoping for the coffee shop to be back up and running soon; in the meantime she will have to find a new vendor, or just take on the responsibility of getting supplies herself.
