The National Honors Society is helping soldiers this holiday season by doing a project called Operation Gratitude.

With about 30 members from Central in the Nation Honor Society, the seniors took on the job of giving back to the community.

“The Operation Gratitude is a nationwide organization that takes donations and sends them to active members in the military and their families as a way to express gratitude for their sacrifices.” said Mrs. Tina Cotreau, the head adviser of the National Honor Society.

During this project, students had to donate cards, blankets, toiletries, and many other things for the soldiers. Students spent a total of 150 dollars and will pack the over 50 pound box to send to soldiers soon.

“I believe people serving for our country get taken for granted. People don’t appreciate them because they get paid so they don’t think the soldiers deserve anything else. They have been overseas for so long that we felt it was the right thing to do to send gifts to them and their families.” said Cotreau.

Miranda Spainhower, a senior at Central, is the president of the National Honor Society and was the main helper involved in the project.

” I cherish this project because it helps people who are helping America. They are receiving gifts that they wouldn’t be able to get otherwise. They’re away from home, so these donations are like a gift from home and I hope the soldiers will be filled with gratitude when they receive these gifts.” concluded Spainhower.

The National Honor Society is excited to be a part of this project and are looking forward to helping the community for the rest of the school year.
