Mrs. Danielle Hooper, Central’s gifted teacher, wanted to honor a Central junior Kat Cimino’s mother by doing a 5k walk.

“Kat is one of my gifted students and when her mom passed away, a dearest member of the school faculty, I felt sympathy towards her. Some of the gifted students and I felt that we should do something to honor her. Cat usually does not like people doing things for her, so we organized it. What we will do is a walk that is about 3 miles for people to support the cause of Cystic Fibrosis,” stated Hooper.

Mrs. Hooper exclaimed that the central faculty is like family, and they are very supportive of each other. If any one of them passes away it is good to remember them by recognizing them.

She stated that the people who volunteered to walk, are walking for Cystic Fibrosis, which is a disease where your mucus increases in your lungs or stomach. The increase of mucus causes you to have difficulty breathing. Therefore, it is considered as a deadly disease.Mrs. Hooper also claimed that the money that is being raised will go towards helping eradicate the disease.

Cat Cimino, the daughter of Tammy Cimino, is glad that her mom can be honored in such a way.

“Mrs. Hooper asked me what the gifted kids could do to honor my mom and support my family. Knowing my mom, this is what she would want me to do,” stated Cimino.

The 5k walk is a fundraiser that requires a donation to in order to support the cause. The money is used to go towards research so that scientist can make medicine for people with Cystic Fibrosis.

“The medicine will keep the disease from progressing. My sister and I have Cystic Fibrosis, and my sister is currently taking medicine to keep the problems at bay. I am very glad that we are doing this because, it supports a cause and it is beneficial towards Cystic Fibrosis, and making the medicine for it.”

The walk will be May 13, 2017 at Baylor. The walk starts at 9AM and will continue until 10:30AM, there is no entry fee for this event, however, we ask that you donate. Anyone collecting $100 in donations, will receive a walk t-shirt.
