Seniors got the opportunity to learn about their future after graduation at Senior Success Day. Senior Success Day showcased their final year at Central and gave them insights on their graduation that will take place at the end of the school year. The event showcased college and scholarship applications that would help them prepare; it also informed students of the choices they will make after they graduate. The event, which was held at Bayside Baptist Church, attracted many colleges from the area.

Many college recruiters from across the South East presented themselves at Senior Success Day. College recruiters from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, Austin Peay University, Middle Tennessee State University, East Tennessee State University, Chattanooga State Community College, Cleveland State University, Sewanee University, and the University of Alabama were all in attendance. Representatives from the Marines and National Guard also attended Senior Success Day. The seniors had four sessions of rotating between college recruiters. They picked out of the available recruiters the ones they thought were the most intriguing and received information on the universities.

Seniors also got a look at possible scholarships they will be applying for. All seniors in attendance applied for the Tennessee Promise scholarship. The class of 2019 also received information on other scholarships that they can apply for in Tennessee, such as the Hope Scholarship, the Aspire Award, the Wilder-Naifeh Grant, and the General Assembly Merit Scholarship.

“We also want students to begin to form a plan for when high school is over, which is why we invite many universities, community colleges, and branches of the military to come and present. Students might not end the day with a set plan for what they want to do after high school, but this day at least helps them start to dream,” explained Ms. Chelsea Long, the guidance counselor for upperclassmen with the last names starting with A-L.

Senior Success Day pleased all of the teachers who went along. They all thought that the event went smoothly and that the message they were trying to convey stuck with students very well. They are hoping that Senior Success Day will greatly affect the seniors’ school year.

“I have had several students come to me and say how beneficial and helpful it was,” explained Mrs. Shea Vetterick, the guidance counselor for upperclassmen with the last names starting with M-Z.

Senior Success Day was a great opportunity for seniors to get a glimpse at what they might come across during their final year of high school. It also equipped them for their future, giving them useful information on scholarships, college, and many other obstacles that may arise on their journey.
