No Challenge For the Girls Basketball Team! – Pounders Take Win Against Hixson and Howard
December 9, 2016
The Lady Pounders basketball team took another win, this time against the Hixson High Wildcats on Tuesday, December 6th, with a score of 41-26.
The girls’ basketball coach, Rick May, explained the turning point in the game occurred when the girls started pressing Hixson’s team.
“We got turnovers and we started scoring,” stated Coach May.
There were many strong players that helped get the win. Alivia Smith, a sophomore, lead the girls by scoring 21 points, while Ja’Nya West scored 11 points and Miracle Miller scored four.
“Miracle Miller was also working hard in the post. I did pretty well in that game. I would say Miracle Miller and myself are the strongest players,” commented Smith.
The girls’ team have their strengths and their weaknesses. This is their fourth game of the season, but they have had various ups and downs.
“Our defense needs to be better. We did not do well on defense in the game,” explained May.
Besides their weaknesses, Coach May was not very happy with how Central challenged Hixson.
“They were pretty weak. They weren’t very strong and we sort of played down to their level. We won, but we won ugly,” shared Coach May.
Smith and the other girls also believed Hixon’s players were not much of a challenge, but still played their best and made sure to not underestimate them.
On Thursday, December 9th, the girls also took the win against Howard with a score of 59-30.
“I’m really proud of my team!” stated Miller.
The Lady Pounders and Coach May are optimistic for future success.
“We are going to get better each game,” concluded May.
