Defense Can’t Slow Red Bank, Lions Roll 37-7

THE GUYS IN GOLD AND PURPLE — Central’s 2014 varsity football players always play like champions.

The game looked like a nail biter in the first quarter. Red Bank’s Demarcus Rivers returned a punt for 60 yards with eight minutes left to go in the first. Central countered with a one yard run from Quarterback Scout Morgan.

“I just kept going and didn’t give up,” said Scout.

It was 7-7 at the end of the first quarter.  At the beginning of the second, Red Bank scored another touchdown – this time through the air –  for 17 yards. After that, the game got out of hand. Red Bank ended up scoring 16 unanswered points in the second quarter, which led to a 23-7 lead at the half for the Lions.

“The offensive line has got to get better. We have to protect our quarterback because if we don’t, we can’t score,” shared Linebacker Caleb Morgan.

The defense continued to struggle in the third quarter, allowing two rushing touchdowns within six minutes.

“Our secondary let them have too many big plays. Even though they only got one touchdown through the air, we gave up 133 yards passing,” said Caleb. “The offensive line has got to get better, too. We have to protect our quarterback because if we don’t, we can’t score.”

Running Back Isyah Funk had 13 carries for 55 yards which was more than half of Central’s rushing yards that night.

The Pounders are now 3-2 (0-2) and had no game the week of September 26. The next game will be at Tyner Academy, who is 0-4 (0-1) and was one of two district wins last season.
