The 2015 Central High School baseball season is underway. With a strong season opener against Tyner at home, the Pounders conquered the Rams 11-1 on Monday, March 9. Last season, Central finished the season 16-20 overall and 10-2 in the district. The team has six returning seniors who made it to the regional playoffs before being knocked out last year.

“The team is really excited about the upcoming season. We’ve got eight returning starters out of the nine positions on the field. These guys have been playing with me for four years and most of them have been playing at the varsity level since tenth grade,” Coach Glenn Carter stated.

The team’s chemistry is extremely strong. The players are on the same level of Coach Carter.

“This year is our best chance, and if this is the year we’re going to do it, it’s this year,” returning senior Jake Hood shared.

“I feel like we’ve got a chance to go all the way,” Scout Morgan agreed.

Scout spoke highly of transfer students from Walker Valley. They happen to be brothers, Walker and Will Waters. Will is a junior and Walker is a sophomore.

“They both have good power behind the bat and are also helping us in our pitching rotation,” Scout stated.

The power of the bat is no question. The team’s batting feels better than ever and is very consistent. The pitching rotation is going to be a lot deeper. There are nine players ready to pitch with five the team is comfortable with at anytime.  Come support the team this season as they aspire to achieve a state championship!
