English teacher, Kevin Parsons (43) is going into his second year of being the sponsor of Central’s RPG club. Parsons defined an RPG as,
“A roleplaying game; a game in which the players work together to create a story and a group of protagonists and imagine how those protagonists would interact with each other and their world.”
Parsons says he had been playing RPGs since 1995 when he was around 15 years old. Every club has an origin, and when asked about why Parsons wanted to start an RPG club, he said,
“I was having a conversation with a few students who play. We all thought it would be great if there was an afterschool D&D Club. I don’t have time for an after-school club, so we started discussing how to use Advisory time to create school clubs.”
This has been a widely shared idea at Central that Advisories could be put to better use. Students take their advisory time to learn how to play and create RPGs while in this club, and the different games include fantasy, horror, science fiction, and more.
Parsons offers a piece of advice to those who are on the fence about joining the RPG club.
“Don’t do it (or avoid it) because of someone else. A big part of growing up is figuring out who you are. Explore your interests, not your friends, before it’s too late.”
