As the lunch bell rings at Central High, a sea of students floods the cafeteria, leaving behind a less visible tide: plastic waste. “It’s like a plastic parade in our own backyard,” laments Kelsey, a junior and member of the art Club.
Mr. Baxter, a biology teacher, observes, ‘The amount of plastic I see daily is staggering. It’s vital we address this not just as a school, but as a community.”
Local wildlife at Harrison Park faces a growing threat from our plastic footprint. “I’ve seen birds with plastic rings around their necks. It’s heartbreaking,'” shares Alex, a senior.
However, change is on the horizon. “Our school’s recycling initiative has taken off, and we’re seeing a real difference in the amount of waste we produce,” says Mrs. Fannon.
