On April 25th, Marissa Mate will host a pottery fundraiser. The money raised will go towards a pottery wheel. The pottery wheel will be available for use by every student in the school.
Mate says, “Visual Art I and II classes are working on pottery projects with different difficulty levels.” Mate has taught her students how to create vases, candle holders, cups, mugs, plates, and sculptures all made by hand.
The fundraiser will be set up like a gallery walk featuring three exhibitions from Art III students and showing off the pottery each class has made. The fundraiser will be a silent auction where participants can bid on pottery they want to buy. People will place their bids as they walk around and look at the ceramics. Items will start at one cent and go up to how much people are willing to pay.
Mate has always loved to create different things from pottery. Mate has years of experience with pottery and “took all the ceramic classes in high school and college. Then, I went on to teach it as a student teacher.” Mate’s favorite thing about pottery is that it teaches you patience because it can be both relaxing and frustrating at the same time.
