Central High School was founded in 1907 on Dodds Avenue in Chattanooga. Central was Chattanooga’s first public high school. Central’s mascot is Stan The Pounder Man. Mrs. C.A. Garrett was the first music instructor at Central High. She taught vocal and instrumental music according to the first published CHS yearbook. In 1969 Central was later located on Hwy 58. Central is also ranked 213th in Tennessee. Central High offers a wide range of programs including Advanced Placement courses, fine arts programs, and career and technical education programs. Central also has a strong athletic program with teams in football, basketball, soccer, volleyball, and more. Central’s principal is Phil Iannarone. Their colors are Gold and purple. Central has around 875 students. In September 2019, an unidentified school administrator painted over the bathroom mirror because people were spending too much time in the bathrooms making them late to class. Then the decision was reversed when they saw a viral Facebook post about it.
